With Primary.Health’s software, we were able to integrate our testing technology and deploy school-based surveillance programs in a matter of days. Working with their team really was a great experience and we could not have accomplished what we did without them!

Public Programs

We began using antigen testing following extended breaks. After Winter Break, we were able to significantly decrease exposure due to a staggered school day start and antigen testing. This program has kept our school in-person through the Omicron surge and we are very grateful for it.

Case Study

How a small at-home rapid testing pilot benefits 4,000+ schools today

In late 2021/early 2022, the California Department of Health (CDPH) and Primary.Health tested the impact of back-to-school COVID-19 rapid testing on disease spread in about 60 school districts. Today, learnings from that pilot inform our health management solutions for 4,000+ schools.

In the pilot, CDPH trusted Primary.Health to centralize diagnostic data. Together, we provided rapid tests to over 60 school districts and health departments. Beyond antigen and PCR testing, the program focused on health equity by allocating more resources to those with increased exposure to COVID-19.

97.5% of positive tests logged were from asymptomatic participants, which means that without testing, most could have unwittingly exposed students and staff.

Fast-forward to today: Primary.Health leveraged findings from this small pilot to expand our suite of school health management tools in use in 4,000+ California schools: immunization management, OTC testing and vaccinations, and indoor air safety.

  • 77.2%

    average voluntary reporting

  • 97.5%

    positive tests were asymptomatic

  • 10

Primary.Health’s web-based platform made registration and testing for the University of Louisville Jefferson County study easy, effective and informative.

Our findings helped us communicate with community residents how widespread COVID-19 infection rates were in the early days of this pandemic aiding in crushing the curve and saving lives.

We knew right away that a return to school and classroom learning required us to think about the tools and protocols that would keep our students safe.

While our students are back to focusing on learning, credit is due to the district’s ongoing commitment to testing and responding proactively to the data with the measures and care our educators and health experts have at their disposal. Testing contributed to where we are today: a reduction of in-school transmission to almost zero.
